Tips for Students
Things to pay attention to
Using EdUHK student account to log in Sway / Google Sites
As the student ePortfolio is an assignment from EdUHK, it is important to create your ePortfolios in Sway/ Google Sites using your EdUHK student account.

Giving access right to your supervisors / tutors / teachers / audience
If you plan to embed artifacts or materials (e.g. Google Doc, Google Slides) to demonstrate your learning experience in your ePortfolio, it is important to give the access right to your audience by setting the access permissions.

Elements of an outstanding ePortfolio
Using different font sizes and colours
You can make use of different font sizes and colours to highlight your key ideas, in order to make your ePortfolio look more attractive and easier to read. Make sure the page does not contain too many colours though, otherwise, audience could be easily distracted from reading the main ideas.

Supplementing with photos and videos
Inclusion of photos and videos helps audience understand your learning experience better. Make sure the placement of the media files is carefully designed to match with the text.

Using creative and attractive design features e.g. animations and collage
You can make use of different creative and attractive design features to demonstrate your learning experiences, in order to make your ePortfolio looks more attractive and easier to read.

Demonstrating GILOs development in a list / table
It is important to demonstrate how your learning experiences developed your GILOs by describing your level on individual GILO with reference to the GILO Rubrics. You can use a list or table to showcase the connection.

Mentioning learning goals or future plans
You can set your goals with reference to the individual report on GILOs and state concrete plans on how to improve areas where enhancement is needed. If you are approaching the end of your study in the University, you are advised to include future learning plans, so you can lead to life-long learning. You may also include learning plans for a specific course, such as GILOs you would like to develop, and evaluate if the targets have been met at the end of the course. If you are in Year 1, we recommend you to set learning goals for your 4/5 years of study in the University.

Things to avoid
Using very small fonts
Audience cannot see your content clearly if a very small font size is adopted. Small fonts should be avoided when creating your ePortfolio so that audience would not lose patience when reading it.

Using non-contrast colours or dark background
Non-contrast colours and dark background are likely to affect readability. Audience might find reading the page tiring.

My Reflection
Write a small paragraph about your reflection on your GILOs.
1. WHAT – Identify strengths and weaknesses
- Identify my strengths and weaknesses on GILOs (based on the self-assessment GILOs report (individual report) [1] / own experiences)
- What are the results of my individual report? Describe them.
- Does the report provide insights for me to understand my generic skills achievements?
2. WHY – Explore reasons for my strengths and weaknesses
- How did I develop the generic skills (in the previous year(s))?
- What challenges did I encounter and how did I try to solve them?
- Why am I weak at certain skills?
- Are there any examples that can illustrate my strengths and weaknesses?
3. HOW – Find ways for improvement
- What goals will I set?
- How can I achieve the goals?
[1] Students are invited to conduct a survey on their self-perception of GILOs at the beginning of studies and an individual report showing the results would be provided to students individually.
My Learning Plans
Write learning plans on how to improve your GILOs.
Element | Example |
---|---|
Practical | “read a few pages per day” rather than “read one book per day” |
Measurable | “remember 5 new words per day” rather than “learning some new words” |
Relevant | “I want to join sport team to improve my social skills” rather than “I want to join sport team to improve my writing skills” |
Specific | “I want to be able to identify pros and cons of different arguments” rather than “I want to improve my critical thinking skills” |
Sustainable | “I commit to voluntary work for the betterment of others and personal growth” rather than “I participate in voluntary work for getting the scholarship” |
