Virtual Learning and Meta Space Design in the Metaverse

E-P-12 (LTTC Apple Regional Training Centre)

The Metaverse is a new and exciting digital universe where social interactions, entertainment, and business occur. It also provides great potential for enhancing educational experiences, improving student engagement and creativity, and making learning more interactive and fun.

In this workshop, you will have an initial experience in the Metaverse via the Spatial platform. You will create your avatar and explore the Metaverse spaces via various exciting and user-friendly platform features. You will learn how to develop your Metaverse spaces for project exhibitions using multiple forms of virtual items in a 3D environment to present your creative design and ideas.

Students who complete the 2-hour workshop can be counted towards the Experiential Learning and Achievements Transcript (ELAT), under “Careers and Professional Development.

Artificial Intelligence Literacy (AIL)

Changes in emerging technologies have placed at the forefront the development of knowledge, skills and attitudes that will equip students with the required level of Digital Competency Requirement (DCR) to succeed. In recognition of the impacts of technologies, students who are admitted in 2024/25 can fulfill the DCR by completing one of the pathways.

Creating 360 Virtual Tours for Teaching in VR CAVE

C-2/F-01C (Extended Reality Room), MMW Library

The VR CAVE at the university is the largest immersive virtual learning environment in Hong Kong, providing 360-degree 4-side and floor projections with motion sensors, enabling students to actively engage and interact with the projected visual content. Over 100 schools in Hong Kong have already established VR CAVE to captivate and inspire students through an immersive learning experience for different subjects.

In this workshop, you can get to know the concept of VR CAVE and develop a step-by-step understanding of creating virtual tours for teaching. You can also get hands-on experience and useful tips in creating digital content such as 360-degree photography, graphic design using Adobe Express, and creating your own immersive virtual tours in VR CAVE for teaching using no-code 360 Designer software.

Apple iOS App Development: Coding with Swift Playgrounds

Online through Zoom

he Centre for Learning, Teaching and Technology is offering the following 2.5-hour certificated workshops on Apple iOS App Development: Coding with Swift Playgrounds.

In the workshop, students can learn how to code with basic Apple Swift codes in the Swift Playgrounds app on iPad and user interface design with the SwiftUI framework. Students can make up executable lines of Swift codes to solve problems, apply logic and solve puzzles. Students can learn computational skills, such as variables, functions, loops and arrays. By the end of the workshop, students can apply the coding practice to create interactive games and apps for any teaching topics in creative ways. Students can get to know the Apple Teacher program, a free professional learning programme certified by Apple that equips educators with Apple technology skills and helps educators design more engaging lessons.

Flying Your Mini-drone with Photogrammetry

Virtual Event Virtual Event

Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs), commonly known as ‘drones’, are aircraft piloted remotely by an operator. A drone is a way to teach real-world examples of coding in action, demonstrating principles of flight and physics. Therefore, drones have been helpful in organising and developing STEM/STEAM activities.

In this workshop, you will learn how to fly an educational drone (DJI RoboMaster TT). You will have opportunities to learn Scratch and Python by programming drones to design flying trajectories, take pictures, and accomplish autonomous flying missions. At the end of the workshop, you will use RealityCapture, a photogrammetry software, to build 3D models with the images/videos captured by drones.
