The Metaverse is a new and exciting digital universe where social interactions, entertainment, and business take place. It also provides great potential for enhancing educational experiences, improving student engagement and creativity, and making learning more interactive and fun. The workshop will demonstrate the followings:

Introduction to Metaverse with an initial experience on the Spatial metaverse platform;
Learn the basic operations and features in the Spatial Metaverse;
Having a tour in fantasy metaverse spaces;
Using Metaverse as project exhibition spaces for education;

Using Generative AI for Academic Research and Writing with Copilot

This workshop will provide a practical demonstration of using Copilot, an AI generative tool powered by GPT-4 and the Microsoft Bing Search Engine. The focus will be on exploring how this tool can support academic research and writing. During the workshop, participants will gain hands-on experience with the research process. This will include activities such as identifying a research topic, conducting a literature review, drafting a research paper, and creating a presentation outline. Furthermore, we will delve into the critical evaluation of AI-generated tools in the context of supporting academic research works.

This workshop aims at covering some pedagogical and technological topics on handling this mode of teaching, such as examples of how to plan for a 3-hour lesson, a demonstration of how to make use of equipment in classrooms to conduct hybrid teaching with Zoom, steps to video-record and upload recordings of your classes.

In this workshop, you can have an exciting experience in the Metaverse via the Spatial platform. You can learn the latest features on Spatial to interact with your students. You can also learn how to develop Metaverse spaces for students’ exhibition projects using multiple forms of virtual items in a 3D environment to present their creative designs and ideas. You can try using Meta Quest headsets to explore VR immersive experiences in Spatial after the workshop.
All EdUHK staff and staff who participated in the workshop “Teaching in the Metaverse Classroom Using Spatial” organised by LTTC are also welcome.

Workshop: Introduction to the use of Open edX

Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) has been a trend of e-Learning Development and edX is one of the popular MOOC platform providers. With an objective to explore more possibilities of online learning, an open edX platform is hosted by LTTC and a few examples of online courses were uploaded on the platform. For a developed MOOC course, students are able to participate in a course via the web and teachers are able to interact with students. The workshop is intended to introduce using edX as a MOOC platform. Colleagues interested in MOOC course development are welcome to enroll the workshop.

Using Panopto for Editing Video and Quiz

Panopto allows users to edit their videos. This workshop aims at demonstrating how we can do so on Panopto via making changes, adding extra streams to our videos, or creating quizzes embedded in videos.

Topics to be covered include:

understanding the video editing environment of Panopto
preparing the different sources of video streams or slides
adding and editing streams
modifying the publish settings (for controlling captions, downloads, etc.)
how viewers can access the video and the learning materials

The Induction – Introduction to Teaching in Higher Education Settings is organised by the Centre for Learning, Teaching and Technology (LTTC). It is categorised as part of the Certificate Course – “Introduction to Teaching in Higher Education”.
