Keynotes sharing on AI in Education and Digital Education at Alibaba Cloud

11 February 2026, Hong Kong

On 11 February 2026, Professor Xu Guandong, Assistant Vice President (Artificial Intelligence and Education Innovation) of The Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK), was invited by Alibaba Cloud and EVI Services Limited to deliver a keynote address. The event, held under the “Hong Kong AI for Empowering Learning and Teaching Funding Programme,” gathered educators and industry leaders to discuss the future of digital education.

Delivering a talk titled “AI in Education: Applications, Developments, and Innovations at The Education University of Hong Kong,” Professor Xu showcased how EdUHK is redefining educational landscapes through cutting-edge technologies. He emphasised the University’s strategic commitment to enhancing the curriculum through digital competency and Artificial Intelligence (AI) literacy, ensuring that both faculties and students are fully equipped for the AI-driven era.

Empowering Students with AI and Digital Competency

During the session, Professor Xu introduced key initiatives driven by the Centre for Learning, Teaching and Technology (LTTC) of EdUHK, specifically highlighting the Digital Competency Curriculum and the associated e-badges system. He explained that these frameworks are designed to enhance students’ employability and prepare them for the evolving demands of the modern workforce.

Demonstrating the successful scaling of AI literacy across the University, Professor Xu reported that in the 2025/26 academic year, the initiative engaged over 2,000 students, spanning more than 35 distinct programmes with positive feedback.

Advancing Teaching Innovation and Professional Development

Beyond student learning, the session also focused on staff empowerment. Professor Xu highlighted the Staff Professional Development (SPD) programmes and the deployment of AI-powered teaching tools, such as Large Language Models (LLM) and the Model-as-a-Service (MaaS) platform.

He further elaborated on the “AI InnoHub” and “Agile AI Development” project initiated by the University to facilitate the generation of multimodal learning and teaching resources. Concluding the talk with a future outlook on “Ambient Intelligence”, Professor Xu reiterated EdUHK’s dedication to redesigning classrooms to actively respond to the AI revolution, fostering a technology-enabled environment that supports personalised, active, constructive and reflective learning.
