11 Feb 2026, Hong Kong

Students from The Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK)’s Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Artificial Intelligence and Educational Technology [BSc(AI&EdTech)] programme have been awarded First Prize in the Innovation Competition (AI Track) at the Huawei ICT Competition 2025–2026 Hong Kong SAR Final.

The event drew nearly 900 participants from 16 tertiary institutions. After months of training and several rounds of assessment, 30 teams (90 participants) moved on to the finals across the Cloud, Computing and AI Tracks.

The award-winning AI Track team comprises Year 3 students Huang Yusi and Liu Xiaobin, and Year 1 student Deng Yixuan, under the supervision of Dr. Cheung Ho Yin Haoran from the Department of Mathematics and Information Technology. Their project, Interpreter Gloves for the Chinese Sign Language, integrates Huawei’s MindSpore and CANN technologies with edge computing, advanced sensor systems and deep learning algorithms to translate Chinese Sign Language gestures into speech and text in real time, enabling seamless, network-independent communication for the hearing and speech-impaired community.

The team will represent Hong Kong at the Huawei ICT Competition 2025–2026 Asia Pacific Regional Final (Innovation Competition AI Track), scheduled for 1–2 April 2026 (tentative), polishing their project and optimizing the technical details of the interpreter gloves to showcase the innovative strength of EdUHK students on a broader stage against teams from other cities.

In addition, EdUHK students Bai Yingdong (白英东), BSc(AI&EdTech); Zeng Chenbo (曾晨博), Master of Science in Artificial Intelligence for Executive Professionals; Xu Jingyi (许靖宜), Master of Science in Artificial Intelligence for Executive Professionals participated in the Cloud Track and were awarded the potential prize.

These accomplishments underscore EdUHK’s strong commitment to interdisciplinary innovation, industry-academia collaboration, and the cultivation of AI professionals dedicated to leveraging technology for social good.
