On January 28, 2026, a delegation from Southwest University visited The Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK). Professor Xu Guandong, Assistant Vice President (Artificial Intelligence and Education Innovation), extended a warm welcome and introduced EdUHK’s institutional history and academic accomplishments. He also shared insights on AI in education and elaborated on the university’s strategic initiatives in AI and digital competence.
Professor Xu outlined several key endeavours led by the Learning, Teaching, and Technology Centre (LTTC), including:
- An AI and digital competency curriculum;
- Professional development programmes for staff;
- Signature AI-driven projects;
- A one-stop AI innovation hub with supporting facilities and platforms;
- Conferences, forums, and competitions to foster academic and technological exchange.
During the visit, LTTC colleagues demonstrated practical applications of AI and emerging technologies in higher education, covering large language models (LLMs), the metaverse, and robotics. LTTC staff introduced the metaverse lab, LLM Studio and Model-as-a-Service (MaaS) platform, emphasising its access to diverse LLMs and tools for creating AI agents. A demonstration of the Unitree GO2 robot followed, showcasing its advanced mobility and AI-enabled capabilities, including obstacle avoidance and voice-controlled embodied AI. The session concluded with hands-on activities, allowing the delegation to interact directly with the technologies presented.
