Beyond Classrooms: LTTC’s Immersive Robotics Experience for Saudi Students
On 08 August 2025, the Centre for Learning, Teaching and Technology (LTTC) at EdUHK hosted a group of 10 students from Umm Al-Qura University (UQU) in Saudi Arabia. The session aimed to introduce the students to cutting-edge artificial intelligence technologies in education through interactive demonstrations and hands-on activities.
Dr. CHENG Kwok Shing Gary, Executive Co-Director of LTTC, warmly welcomed the UQU students and shared insights into the centre’s advancements in AI-driven education, including large language models and intelligent robots. Dr. Cheng highlighted LTTC’s ongoing initiatives, such as the development of AI-enhanced tools and digital competency frameworks.
During the visit, LTTC staff showcased the Unitree GO2 robot and its advanced AI-driven capabilities, including obstacle avoidance, interactive control, and potential applications in educational settings. The students engaged in hands-on activities with the robot to control the robot’s behaviour (e.g., move, stand, dance, jump) by speaking. The demonstrations emphasised the transformative potential of integrating AI and robotics in education.
Additionally, LTTC staff introduced the LTTC LLM Studio’s Model-as-a-Service (MaaS) platform. They highlighted its diverse LLMs (ChatGPT, DeepSeek, ChatGLM, Grok, Gemini, etc.) and demonstrated knowledge base creation as well as interactive AI agents. The students actively participated in hands-on activities by creating personalised chatbots on the MaaS platform to explore AI applications in educational contexts and facilitate their innovations.
The UQU students and Dr. Cheng expressed their excitement for the session, which provided a valuable opportunity to learn about AI’s role in education through practical engagement. The session inspired the students to explore innovative teaching and learning practices through technology.
