The Induction – Introduction to Teaching in Higher Education Settings is organised by the Centre for Learning, Teaching and Technology (LTTC). It is categorised as part of the Certificate Course – “Introduction to Teaching in Higher Education”. It is offered to all new full-time academic/teaching staff and Research Postgraduate (RPg) students of EdUHK. The Induction aims to provide essential learning, teaching, and assessment information at EdUHK, for which two 3-hour sessions will be arranged. The Induction is delivered by LTTC staff and academic staff from different departments and other academic support units of the University.
All EdUHK staff are welcome! This workshop will introduce three popular online applications that create a collaborative environment for interactive teaching and learning. These three apps are Nearpod, Padlet and Quizizz.
Moodle quiz accommodates many question types, including multiple choices, true-false, matching and essay. Questions are saved in the question bank and can be re-used in other Moodle courses. In this workshop, you can have an introduction to using Quizzes to conduct assessments, demonstrate grading, give written comments and release the grade in the gradebook. With hands-on practice, you can learn how to create questions and quiz papers, manage the results and re-use the questions.
After creating and editing our Panopto videos, incorporating them into our classes would be the next step. This workshop aims at sharing how communities can be set up for peer discussions of videos and how Panopto videos can be incorporated into Moodle, Topics to be covered include:
forming a community for peer discussions of Panopto videos made by students
adding video to Moodle
setting up for video assignment submission on Moodle
To promote academic integrity, the use of Turnitin in Moodle for online assignment submission was implemented in 2015/16. Recently, an enhanced feature, Feedback Studio (formerly known as GradeMark), was embedded in Turnitin, which allows teachers to evaluate students’ work online via mobile devices easily. In this workshop, you can have hands-on practice in setting up Turnitin assignments, viewing similarity reports submitted by students and giving comments online.
