Title: Unpacking Adaptivity in Digitally Enhanced Learning Environments Learning Analytics: State of Research – Implementation – Conditions for Success
Abstract: Adaptive learning has become a pivotal paradigm within educational technologies, with digitally enhanced environments increasingly utilising data analysis to adapt to individual learner needs and evolving requirements. This seminar, “Unpacking Adaptivity in Digitally Enhanced Learning Environments,” will explore the fundamental concept of adaptivity, characterised by building and leveraging models of learner goals, preferences, and knowledge to tailor interactions. It will explore the affordances and implementation strategies for adaptivity, drawing on recent research that highlights its positive effects on learning performance, including empirical evidence of time savings and knowledge gains. The discussion will cover crucial aspects such as identifying valid indicators for adaptation, supporting self-regulated learning within adaptive systems, and navigating the critical ethical considerations and data privacy challenges inherent in their design and deployment.
Learning Analytics (LA) has emerged from the increasing availability and analysis of educational data. This seminar, “Learning Analytics: State of Research – Implementation – Conditions for Success,” provides a comprehensive overview of the field. It will explore the current state of research and examining the development and evaluation of LA dashboards. The seminar will also address the complexities of implementing LA systems, including data integration challenges, change management processes, and the current landscape of adoption. Crucially, we will discuss the conditions necessary for successful LA implementation, such as fostering a data-supported learning culture, ensuring data quality and availability, addressing ethical considerations and data privacy, and aligning LA efforts with stakeholder needs and expectations.
