EdUHK Bachelor’s Student Won the First Runner-Up Prize in the 2024 Scenario Development Competition
23 January 2025, Hong Kong
Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU) held the online award ceremony of the 2024 Scenario Development Competition. This collaborative project is led by Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU), with five partner universities: City University of Hong Kong (CityUHK), Lingnan University (LU), The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK), The Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK), and The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU). This competition aims to raise students’ digital citizenship awareness in their digital learning environment by composing scenario-based AR learning trails aligned with the nine elements in three categories of the Digital Citizenship Framework (https://digitalcitizenship.hkbu.edu.hk/digital-citizenship-framework/). Winning scenarios were recognised for their creativity, pedagogical rigor, and technical innovation.
Among the 139 submissions, four EdUHK students distinguished themselves and achieved excellent results in this competition. Bian, Jiaxuan, a third-year student in the Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Artificial Intelligence and Education Technology, won the first runner-up award. While Leung Ching Man Julie, Kwok Chun, and Yu Sing Yin were honoured with merit awards.
Jiaxuan’s artefact, titled “Web of Shadows: A Fight for Justice,” centres specifically on tackling online defamation and promoting digital accountability through an engaging, interactive scenario. The story follows a teenager named Joe who faces harmful online behaviours and bullying, placing users in the role of a lawyer tasked with gathering evidence and seeking justice. Through chapters that simulate investigating digital communications and a courtroom confrontation, the scenarios are rooted in real-world challenges and inspired by the Digital Citizenship Framework, emphasizing respectful communication, honesty, well-being, and the protection of digital rights. Their success not only celebrates individual achievement but also reflects EdUHK’s ongoing commitment to nurturing responsible, savvy, and socially engaged digital citizens.
